HAMMOND - A man who reportedly robbed a gas station and was caught by a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 was found choking the dog before he was arrested, officials said.

TPSO said Latrail James, 20, went into a convenience store along Airport Road on Tuesday morning. He reportedly wore a pink mask and said he had a gun before stealing things from behind the clerk's counter.

Deputies were called and released K-9 Thor to search for the suspect. The dog caught James behind a neighboring business.

When deputies arrived at their location, James was allegedly choking K-9 Thor. TPSO said the dog was evaluated and cleared.

After he was released from a hospital, James was booked for first-degree robbery, unauthorized entry of a business, resisting an officer and battery of a police officer.
