Storms are about to get a lot harder to dodge, especially during the afternoon and evening. These elevated rain chances will last all the way through Labor Day weekend.

Today & Tonight: Thursday will start off clear, with not much of any rain expected during the AM hours. This will send our temperatures quickly into the 90s, and our high will be near 95°. Storms will be possible in the afternoon and evening, but not everyone will get wet. Rain will be scattered in nature with about a 50% areal coverage. Any remaining storms will fizzle out overnight. Lows will be near 75°. A few showers and storms will be possible early Friday, so be aware of this if you are headed out early.

Football Forecasts: Heading to a high school football game Friday night? Pack a poncho just to be safe. Numerous showers should taper off as the sun goes down, but a lingering shower or pop-up storm could still pass by.

It’s shaping up to be a packed weekend across town with both LSU and Southern hosting their home openers and tailgate crowds. A total washout isn’t in the cards, but weather delays are possible. Expect numerous afternoon showers and thunderstorms to develop. Any cell that forms could pack heavy rain and frequent lightning, which is a major hazard for anyone out in the open. Make sure to go into a fully enclosed building if thunder roars. Following our usual summer pattern, the activity will wrap up shortly after dark. Otherwise, expect typical heat and humidity, with afternoon highs topping out in the low-to-mid 90s and morning starts in the mid-70s.
