Though not as widespread as Thursday and Monday earlier this week, isolated to scattered pop-up showers and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast through the weekend. However, they will come after ample warming, with more highs in the mid-90s ahead.

Tonight & Tomorrow: Expect a warm, muggy night in the Baton Rouge Area with morning lows dropping into the low 70s as skies clear. Friday will start out hot and bright, driving afternoon highs up into the low 90s. As heat and humidity build through midday, isolated to scattered thunderstorms will pop. Rain-cooled air from thunderstorms will crash into the surface, causing outflow boundaries to disperse around the region. These outflow boundaries are like mini cold fronts that can trigger new development. In any case, showers and thunderstorms will cease into the evening.

Up Next: The typical, late summer weather pattern will continue through the weekend into early next week. Daytime highs will max out in the low 90s with overnight lows staying muggy in the mid-70s. A pool of slightly cooler air in the atmosphere will help to increase storm energy on Sunday and Monday. Marine breezes from the lakes and coast will push inland to trigger afternoon showers and thunderstorms with rain coverage around 50%.

By mid-to-late week, a ridge of high pressure will build over the region. This high pressure will suppress some of the afternoon storm energy and allow highs to return to the mid 90s. If humidity remains elevated, feels-like temperatures could approach alert levels again.

The Tropics: Tropical Storm Dolly formed over the central tropical Atlantic on Thursday morning. With 40 mph maximum sustained winds, Dolly is moving west at 24 mph. The storm is forecast to encounter unfavorable conditions, causing it to weaken into a simple tropical wave before reaching the Leeward Islands. Dolly poses no threat to Baton Rouge or the Gulf Coast.
