Rest of the Week: Expect partly cloudy skies overnight with low temperatures in the mid 70s. On Thursday, some early sun will send afternoon high temperatures to the mid 90s before some showers and thunderstorms pop. A plume of tropical moisture will move into the atmosphere late in the day, helping to kick out some activity.  That same plume of tropical moisture will remain over the region on Friday with a significant amount of energy in the atmosphere leading to numerous showers and thunderstorms. While severe weather is not expected, any thunderstorms could cause briefly heavy rain and frequent lightning. Be aware of the potential for some delays to afternoon activities and commutes.

Football Forecasts: If you plan to head out to high school football games on Friday evening, keep a poncho handy in your stadium bag. While showers will tend to fizzle into the night, it is possible a shower or thunderstorm lingers in some spots.

A significantly busy weekend is ahead with LSU and Southern set to host their first football games and tailgates. Weather will certainly not threaten washouts, but some disruptions are possible. Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast. Any storms could bring brief heavy rain and lightning – a sure threat to anyone outside. Know an adequate lightning shelter nearby, which means an enclosed structure fixed to the ground. In keeping with the typical warm season routine, activity will fade after dusk. As far as temperatures go, it will still be hot and humid with highs in the low to mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s.

Up Next: An upper-level ridge of high pressure will expand back over the region into early next week. This pattern will keep typical late-summer heat intact, with high temperatures in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s. Daily rain coverage will tick back into the isolated category due to some pop-up showers and thunderstorms.

The Tropics: Tropical Depression Edouard moved northwest of Beaumont, Texas, on Wednesday morning and continues to weaken over East Texas. While Edouard brought severe flash flooding to parts of East Texas, the system continues to move away from Louisiana and will dissipate overnight. Aside from Edouard, no other tropical systems are expected to develop in the Gulf, Caribbean or Atlantic.
