BATON ROUGE — A woman was rescued from an apartment fire along Delplaza Drive early Monday morning, the Baton Rouge Fire Department said.

A spokesperson for the fire department said that firefighters responded to the scene around 6 a.m. and found a first-story apartment on fire, with flames originating in the unit's kitchen.

The woman lived in the apartment alone, with neighbors helping her escape the fire before fire crews arrived and quickly contained the fire.

The occupant's injuries, BRFD officials said, are non-life-threatening. She was not taken to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
