PONCHATOULA — A former teacher arrested for alleged sexual conduct with a student is facing additional charges after an additional victim was discovered. 

Trey Sparks was arrested Oct. 6 on four counts of possessing child sexual abuse material depicting victims under the age of 13 and one count of prohibited sexual contact between an educator and a student.

On Thursday, Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson said that he was charged with an additional count of prohibited sexual contact between an educator and a student, as well as indecent behavior with juveniles. 

According to arrest documents dated Sept. 14, Sparks was messaging a player he used to coach in middle school on Snapchat starting in late August. In early September, Sparks invited the former player to a church event and to a fitness gym.

Sparks' arrest on his new charges is pending his release from the Livingston Parish Jail, Layrisson said.

Sparks was a teacher at DC Reeves Elementary School and a coach at Ponchatoula Junior High School. After he was arrested last month, Tangipahoa Parish school officials said he was no longer employed with the school system. 

Last month, Ponchatoula Police were contacted by concerned parents who located alarming messages between a juvenile and a coach with the Tangipahoa Parish School System. Police seized devices in late September belonging to Sparks and found victims in Livingston Parish.

Livingston Parish Schools also issued a statement saying Sparks taught at Maurepas School from 2021 to 2024. He resigned in October 2024 to pursue "other opportunities" related to employment with another district.
