MARINGOUIN — A mother and her son are dead after an early Monday morning apartment fire on Ridgewood Drive in Maringouin, according to the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office.

Officials said the fire started around 6:30 a.m. this morning. The fire claimed the lives of a 22-year-old Lauren Carter and six-year-old Layton Carter, according to the sheriff's office.

According to the sheriff's office, about 10 to 15 people were displaced by the fire.
