BATON ROUGE — Southern University's Homecoming on the Bluff included a poetry slam at the John B. Cade Library, where students and faculty recited original verses.

Organizers say the event gives participants the opportunity to display powerful voices, telling their own stories and sharing their own experiences.

The poetry slam also ties into this year's homecoming theme of "Nobody Does It Better."

Southern will take on Arkansas Pine Bluff at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
