BERWICK — A man was arrested for first-degree rape involving a child under 13 years old on Saturday.

According to the Berwick Police Department, on Friday afternoon, officers received a complaint concerning the alleged sexual abuse of a child at a residence along Oregon Street in Berwick. 

During the investigation, 33-year-old Miguel Pu was identified as the alleged offender.

Investigators said that Pu allegedly resided in the same home as the child and is a relative of the victim, with Pu allegedly confessing to engaging in sexual intercourse with the child on multiple occasions during 2025.

Pu was arrested and booked into the Baerwick Jail on five counts of first-degree rape of a victim under 13 years of age. 

Officers later learned that ICE placed an immigration detainer on Pu pending further proceedings. Pu, a native of Guatemala, was previously deported from the United States and allegedly reentered the country illegally about five to six years ago, according to investigators.
