BATON ROUGE — The East Baton Rouge Parish Library's Scotlandville Branch is reopening to the public on Aug. 20 at 9 a.m. after a major renovation and expansion project.

Patrons will be able to visit the branch and enjoy more than 24,000 square feet of updated spaces, technology and amenities, though some finishing work remains.

The project was completed in two phases under a "Pay-As-You-Go" Capital Improvements plan. The first phase began in 2023 with the construction of a separate archives annex and maintenance building.

The second phase began in 2025 and focused on expanding and renovating the library itself. The branch now offers 24,059 square feet of space, which is more than 6,000 square feet larger than the original building that opened in 2001.

WBRZ previously reported on a new mural being added to the library.

Starting Aug. 20, the Scotlandville Branch will return to its regular hours: Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Once all remaining furnishings and equipment are received and installed, the library plans to hold a formal Re-Dedication Ceremony, which is anticipated for October.
