GONZALES — More than a dozen cyclists took to the streets of Gonzales on Friday, lighting up the road during a community bike ride to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Weekend.

Participants traveled from Big River to Jambalaya Park to raise awareness and show solidarity with survivors across Ascension Parish.

The event was organized by Help and Hope Ascension, a local non-profit dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence. Founder Dr. Tina Rios used the gathering to share an empowering message with anyone currently struggling in silence.

"I want to tell them that you are heard. You are valuable. You are important, and don't ever think that you are not seen," Rios said. "You are seen. You are loved, and you are important. So I want you to know you are not a victim. You are a victor. You need to get the help. Don't be secluded. Don't stay to yourself. Get help."

The awareness efforts will continue Saturday morning with the organization's "Stop the Violence Walk and Rally," scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. Attendees can expect an uplifting community day featuring food, giveaways, and family-friendly activities.
