LIVONIA — A law enforcement search is underway in the southern end of Pointe Coupee Parish after one person fled a traffic stop on foot into a wooded area, the Pointe Coupee Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies, with help from the Livonia Police Department, pulled over a vehicle carrying four adult males. Three of them were taken into custody on an active immigration warrant.

The fourth person ran into a nearby wooded area. Deputies, drone operators and K-9 units are actively searching for that individual.

Residents near the search area are asked to stay out of the woods and to report any suspicious activity to the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office.

"Our deputies, along with our law enforcement partners, are working diligently to locate the individual who fled the traffic stop," Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux said. "We appreciate the cooperation of our residents and ask everyone to remain vigilant and allow our personnel to safely complete their work."
