BATON ROUGE — State Rep. Mike Bayham said Thursday he is planning to introduce legislation that would create a Louisiana specialty license plate honoring late country music star and philanthropist Dolly Parton.

Twenty-five dollars from each plate, Bayham said, would go to supporting Parton's Imagination Library, a program she started in 1995 to provide free children's books to families. The program has been active in Louisiana since 2023.

"Louisiana has always been a state of music, storytelling, and the arts," Bayham said. "Dolly Parton used her extraordinary success to make a difference in the lives of children. This plate gives Louisianans an opportunity to celebrate her legacy while making a meaningful investment in our next generation."

Bayham said he will share more about his proposal at a news conference on Friday at New Orleans' Audubon Aquarium and Insectarium.
