Assumption Parish deputies arrest 2 after finding meth during traffic stop, sheriff's office says

PAINCOURTVILLE — Two people from Houma were arrested on felony drug charges after a traffic stop in Assumption Parish.

According to the sheriff's office, Deputies tried to stop a car driving on La. 70, east of Paincourtville. The vehicle, driven by 47-year-old Shawn Joseph Olivier, continued on for a distance before stopping, the sheriff's office said.

After talking to both Olivier and his passenger, 38-year-old Stevi Jayne Gonzales, deputies brought in a K-9 for an open-air sniff of the car. The dog alerted to drugs, and deputies found methamphetamine in the vehicle, the sheriff's office said.

Gonzales was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, possession of methamphetamine and obstruction of justice. Her bond was set at $150,000.

Olivier was booked into the same facility on charges of conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, obstruction of justice and following too closely. His bond was set at $100,000.
