BATON ROUGE — City Year Baton Rouge has been selected to receive funding through the 2026 9/11 Day Grant Program, administered by the nonprofit 9/11 Day in collaboration with AmeriCorps, the organization announced on Thursday.

The 9/11 Day Grant Program is a $3 million grant to help fund service projects by and for students, the funding of which is being provided by AmeriCorps and the Popeyes Foundation.

This grant supports community-led service projects across the nation commemorating the 25th anniversary of 9/11. It aims to bring people together across political, geographic, generational, and cultural lines to address local needs and educate participants about the lasting legacy of service inspired by that day.

To honor the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, City Year Baton Rouge is joining a nationwide movement to transform the anniversary into America's Day of Doing Good, reclaiming September 11 as an annual moment of national reflection, unity and action.

With more than 100 million Americans now having little or no personal memory of September 11, 2001, local service projects ensure future generations remember not only the tragic events of that day, but also the extraordinary compassion, courage, selflessness and spirit of unity that emerged in its aftermath.

On Sept. 19, City Year Baton Rouge will host a First Responder Appreciation Project at the River Center Library downtown, bringing together nearly 150 volunteers to create appreciation kits, benefiting local First Responders as part of the federally recognized September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.

“We look forward to coming together to honor 9/11 and share its profound impact with our volunteers,” said City Year Baton Rouge Executive Director Lori Halvorson. “Being able to appreciate our local First Responders at the same event will be very powerful, as our volunteers have the chance to thank those who step up to serve our neighborhoods every day.”
