Amite man arrested in connection to reported trailer theft
AMITE — A tip from the public has allowed the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office to make an arrest in connection with a tractor theft investigation from May, the agency announced on Thursday.
Twenty-one-year-old Malachi Latino, of Amite, has been booked on one count of illegal possession of stolen things ($5,000-$25,000) and criminal trespassing.
In May, the owner of property in the 21000 block of Austin Brumfield Road discovered his tractor and trail camera had been stolen. The tractor was a red model 3016 GD Mahindra with a front loader bucket and bushhog attachments.
Through the investigation, detectives were able to recover video from the property during the timeframe the tractor was believed to have been stolen, which showed a man walking near the tractor. After sharing that video with the public, a tip was submitted, which helped identify Latino.
After Latino was detained, detectives located the missing tractor in Monticello, Mississippi.
