SPRING CREEK — Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested a teenager they allege threw a large drink cup at an oncoming semi-truck last month and severely injured the driver.

Police say they have arrested a 16-year-old male from the Kentwood area for the incident, which occurred on the night of Aug. 16 on Highway 1054.

A semi-truck driver was traveling on the highway near Forbes Road in the Spring Creek area when her windshield suddenly broke, shattering portions into the passenger compartment. Police say that glass from the break severely injured one of the driver’s eyes.

Dash camera video in the semi-truck captured the incident and the suspect vehicle, which investigators shared with the public. Tips were submitted to police, which helped investigators identify the teenager and the pickup truck involved.

“The investigation revealed the teen, who was a passenger in the truck, threw a large drink cup out of his window, which struck the oncoming semi-truck,” a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s spokesman wrote in a prepared statement. “The TPSO wants to thank the public for their partnership in this case.”
